No prior internship? You can still build a compelling resume by showing projects, outcomes, and initiative. Recruiters care about proof of skills, not job titles.
What to include (even with “no experience”)
- Projects with measurable results (builds, research, writing, clubs).
- Skills that map to the internship (tools, methods, languages).
- Leadership and reliability (roles, deadlines, ownership).
Start with a one-page structure
- Header: name, email, location, link to portfolio or LinkedIn.
- Skills: keep it specific (Python, CAD, lab techniques, writing).
- Projects: 2 to 4 best, each with outcome bullets.
- Leadership: clubs, competitions, community impact.
- Education: GPA and relevant coursework (optional).
Write bullets like a builder
Use “did X using Y resulting in Z”. If Z is not a number, make it a real result: shipped, improved, reduced, created, published, presented.
Mini-checklist before you submit
- Does each section prove a skill the internship asks for?
- Do you have links to work (GitHub, slides, writeups)?
- Is it readable in 10 seconds (bold outcomes, clean spacing)?
